Well, it’s August. School’s back. Old, annoying, educational, loud, crowded, busy, active, academic, stupid school is back. I’m running out of adjectives.
Hello Jackets! It’s me, Landon Bryson, writing to you with the hope and exhaustion that can only come after a first day of school. Exhaustion: First day of school. Hope: This year will end quickly.
This year I am a junior in high school, and I find that hard to believe. I still feel like a sophomore, struggling to maintain an A in Chemistry. But nope. I’m a junior, regretting my decision to take an AP class. I mean seriously, who gives an essay on the second day of school. (You know who you are.) It’s okay though, because I can vent to that teacher about any book and nine out of ten times they’ve heard of it.
Speaking of books, in these blog posts I’ve said about a thousand times that I’m trying to get to 50 books this year, and right now I am at 33, and will probably be at 34 by the time this is posted. Thank God for July, and endless hours of traveling where I had many opportunities to read.
This summer, I have done a myriad of things. I have been to the Grand Ole Opry, eaten all different kinds of burgers that I’d never heard of before, felt the crazy skin and scales and shell of live snakes, turtles, and alligators, hit golf balls, climbed five different rock walls a total of fifteen times, read a total of 20 books between June and July, finished the first season of The Big Bang Theory, started the second season of The Big Bang Theory, and eaten a ton of cinnamon sugar pretzel bites. Safe to say I’ve probably gained five pounds, but I don’t hear the ladies complaining.
Being a junior is kind of like a wakeup slap to the face. It’s a little reminder that time flies, and that, even though it might not feel like it, in the grand scheme of things, high school is almost over. I hope I can enjoy the time I have left, and I hope everyone else in high school tries their best to do the same.
Well anyways, that’s all for this week. I hope every student has a good first week of school, and I hope every teacher is counting down the days until it’s over, because I will be asking soon. Until next time, it’s your favorite blind Jacket.
